Location: Duztepe, Gaziantep – Turkey

Position Summary: The Teacher is responsible for implementing informal and remedial education classes for refugee children and adolescents on subjects including literacy, math and English. All teachers will be under the supervision of an Education Supervisors and implement lesson plans in cooperation with the Learning Coordinator and Senior Program Officer- Learning.

Over a working week of 40 hours, at least 26 hours will be direct teaching time, with 14 hours remaining for preparation and meeting time. Teachers will be required to cover classes as directed by their Supervisor

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Assessment and Monitoring of Students

  • Administer and mark pre-tests and post-tests for all students.
  • On-going assessments to progress individual student’s learning

Planning and Delivery of classes

  • Responsible for the educational process in classroom
  • Organizing and amending educational materials
  • Submitting of attendance records for all classes
  • Establishing and contributing suggestions and actions to enable and encourage a positive learning environment for all students.
  • Plan and present lessons to meet the needs of varying levels of ability in the classroom.  classroom.
  • Assist the distribution of school supplies to students.
  • Encourage students learning and attendance through engaging and active learning opportunities
  • Working with other members of the Learning team to coordinate educational materials and share good practice
  • Covering of other classes when other teachers are unavailable

Wider participation in centre activities

  • Maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude to ensure that children’s rights and safety are maintained at all time
  • Assisting outreach activities and interactions with parents by organizing and participate in activities and events within the center.
  • Identification, referral and support to the follow up of students who have dropped out from services or are showing irregular attendance
  • Other duties allocated by Education Supervisor and other members of the senior Education team, as necessary

Other responsibilities

  • To implement and follow the child protection policy in day to day work.
  • Weekend working, specifically Sundays and possibly Saturdays

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in education, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience as teacher
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and strategic planning skills required;
  • Fluency in Arabic and English required; Turkish desired;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently;
  • Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues.
  • Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
