Position:         Child Friendly Space (CFS) Animator                         

Location:        Gaziantep, Turkey

Reports to:    PSS Coordinator

Relief International is registered NGO in Turkey and is based in Gaziantep to build capacities of Syrian communities to respond their needs in health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and education.


Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Psycho Social Support (PSS) Coordinator, the CFS Animator is responsible for planning, designing and implementing PSS and recreational activities to improve the psychosocial wellbeing of the beneficiaries (children and youth aged 10-18 years) and strengthen their resilience and ability to build positive relationships with the host community.  Recreational activities are likely to include art, music and sport-focused.


Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out structured PSS activities using specific methodologies to support the beneficiaries’ resilience and help in building positive relationships with the Turkish Community.
  • Plan, with full supervision of the PSS Specialists, the activity in order to ensure progressive steps from easier to more difficult activities.
  • Ensure that the participatory method in designing the activities is applied to enable children to express themselves and to be heard.
  • Monitor the beneficiaries’ participation to the activities.
  • Monitor beneficiaries’ progress, identifying those in need for further PSS care and refer special cases to the PSS Specialist as soon as identified.
  • Participate in the preparation, execution and organization of Focus Group Discussions for the beneficiaries of all age groups.
  • Report in case of any kind of abuse to the PSS Specialists.
  • Plan and request, with coordination of the PSS Specialists and the center coordinator, the material needed for the activities.
  • Be responsible for the proper use and basic maintenance of the animation material and Community Centers facility.
  • Participate in close collaboration with the PSS in the drafting, implementation and follow-up of the activities.
  • Design structured PSS activities targeting children and adolescent.

Participate with other team members in designing the events held in the Community centers and in the community.

  • Report any PSS and Child Protection issues of vulnerable children to the PSS Specialists to be referred to the specialized services.
  • Any other duties that agreed upon.



Qualifications & Requirements:


  • BA or BS in, Social Studies, or related field.
  • At least two years of experience planning and implementing PSS activities.
  • Experience of working with children and youth, in an informal/formal setting
  • Willingness to travel and work extensively – sometimes at short notice, in difficult places and under long hours – according to a results-based approach
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and strategic planning skills required;
  • Fluency in Arabic, English and/ or Turkish are a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues.
  • Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Must be flexible, willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours
