JOB TITLE: Psychosocial Support Assistant

LOCATION: Iskenderun




Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a prominent international organization working in relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression.

Working in coordination with the humanitarian community, the IRC currently addresses the needs of war-affected Syrians from several operational bases in the region. Our activities in the region focus primarily on the supply of vital medications and medical equipment, non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene and child protection and form part of an over-arching humanitarian response in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and the region that seeks to assist refugees, IDPs and war-affected Syrians survive conflict and displacement.

This position will support the implementation of protection rule of law (PRoL) and Gender Based Violence programs in southern Turkey.  This position will be based in Reyhanli Turkey and focus on supporting the implementation of programs to protect and empower women and girls and other vulnerable groups in southern Turkey.  The Psychosocial Assistant will a play a key role in directly supporting vulnerable persons, provide immediate PFA to persons in distress and facilitate group psychosocial activities.  Protection and Empowerment (WPE) Program Manager will play a key role in supporting and expanding ongoing and new programs, leading and strengthening the capacity of staff, and building relationships with communities in Turkey. The Psychosocial Assistant will report directly to the Psychosocial Officer.



The Psychosocial Assistant will directly implement psychosocial support through centers in either Reyhanli and the surrounding areas:

  • Conduct mobile field visits within the community according to monthly work plan as set by the PSS Officer.
  • Respond to refugees and vulnerable persons identified that need individual PSS support
  • Provide age-appropriate group PSS sessions directly in communities
  • Lead with the support of the Protection Manager trainings to other center staff and external partners on relevant legal issues.
  • Identify and refer cases with the support of the PSS Officer cases that require specialized mental health support to appropriate facilities.
  • Receive and attend to referrals from local NGOs, community members, and INGOs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.
  • All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.


  • At least one years of counseling and training experience, preferably experience working directly with women and girls.
  • Clear understanding of gender and women’s well-being needs.
  • Experience facilitating activities and workshops
  • Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
  • Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fluency in Arabic required; English and Turkish proficiency greatly preferred.
  • Syrian National with  valid residency Required
