The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Inside Syria, 7.6 million people are internally displaced and 12.2 million are in need of humanitarian assistance, with 4.8 million in hard-to-reach areas. There are 3.8 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes and infrastructure will take years to repair.

IRC is offering a robust humanitarian response to the Syria crisis with an annual budget in excess of $140 million and a rapidly expanding portfolio, supported by more than 1,250 staff in the region. IRC is undertaking programs in Syria and the neighboring countries of Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan in the fields of health, child protection, education, women’s protection and empowerment, NFI and food distribution, cash assistance, water and sanitation, and livelihood programming. Our work in these challenging settings gives rise to some of the most pressing issues facing contemporary humanitarian action, including questions of access, security, funding and coordination.

Job Overview/Summary:

The main responsibility of the Turkish Facilitator is to help participants understand the requirements of Turkish knowledge. Main duties will range from the preparation of course work, planning of classes and grading of work handed in. On top of this the facilitator will also have to arrange any extra-curricular activities and set targets for the students’ beneficiaries. The position is based in İskenderun Women Center.



Major Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of classes based on the monthly/weekly schedule.
  • Follow and record student beneficiaries’ attendance in coordination with the Education Assistant.
  • Organize and deliver classroom lectures to student beneficiaries while ensuring participatory methods.
  • Support the Education Assistant for any required information for the Turkish courses.
  • Evaluating beneficiaries’ class work and assignments.
  • Preparing classroom and coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Recording and maintaining accurate student attendance records and grades.
  • Classroom management.
  • Developing lesson plans.
  • To use continuous improvement process and tools to ensure interactive classroom sessions.
  • To draft reports and presentations on the improvement of student progress when required.
  • To undertake any other related duties as requested by the Informal Education Officer, Education Manager and Center Manager.
  • Follow the IRC way rules during the assignment with IRC

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in education or related degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 year(s) practice in teaching Turkish as a second language
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in teaching methodology
  • Must have excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have strong public speaking skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and mechanically inclined.
  • Pedagogical formation.
  • To be eager to apply different methods for the development of the students.
  • Good communication, people skills, energy and ability to work in a team.
  • Turkish and Arabic language is a must (English language preferred).
