Post Title: Driver

Duty station:  Gaziantep (Turkey)

Duration of assignment: service contract – 12 months







The French Agency for International Cooperation Expertise France (EF) has been commissioned by the European Commission to implement a programme in support to several community centres to better respond to hosts’ and refugees’ needs.  . Expertise France is currently looking to employ a qualified and reputable Driver on a service contract to support the programme in Gaziantep.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Mission (HoM), the incumbent will ensure that EF staff are driven safely to meetings, workshops and other work-related destinations, and that the EF vehicles under his/her charge are maintained in an optimal working condition.

The driver’s responsibilities and duties are stipulated below:


  1. Responsibilities

The driver is responsible for

  • Safely and responsibly drive EF staff to meetings, field missions and any official travel using organization’s vehicles
  • Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
  • Obtain clearance for field mission’s when necessary
  • Perform airport pick-up duties
  • Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations
  • Assisting with other office tasks as appropriate
  • Take an active role in security and safety of the EF premises


  1. Tasks

The driver performs the following tasks:


  • Provide passenger transport in an official car for office and project staff, official visitors and guests
  • Collect and deliver mail, packages and equipment; maintain record of all deliveries and distributions, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies
  • Help with transporting goods as appropriate
  • Complete the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with EF standards


  • Clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly
  • Check oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly or every 5,000 km (whichever is first), headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc.
  • Ensure safety and custody of the vehicle, including tools (first aid kit and necessary spare parts assigned to the vehicle)
  • Is responsible for the project vehicle documents and their good condition, keeping a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance
  • Calculate monthly petrol, oil and lubricant consumption for the daily cash fund and for forwarding monthly vouchers to cost accounting
  • Report need for service and carries out minor repairs
  • Immediately report all involvement of the office vehicle in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings


  • The drivers as part of their daily routine will observe and monitor the environment immediately around the office
  • Report any suspicious events to the security officer
  • Observe, and report any new developments in the vicinity of the office such as new construction or neighbours
  • Monitor local news and report any significant local events to their supervisor
  • Assist with compiling a week report summarising such events.
  • Provide short term cover for the security guard when necessary


Facilities Management

  • To assist with basic maintenance of the office in terms of simple and minor repairs
  • To assist with basic gardening tasks
  • Supervising contractors on site


Knowledge management

  • Use all available information (including current radio news on traffic conditions) to update daily knowledge of road conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other office drivers




Other duties/additional tasks

  • Assist other colleagues as needed in the programme or office if there is no travel pending, carries out other office work on request
  • When necessary, translates for office staff and/or other personnel when using the car.
  • Participate in office meetings when required
  • When appropriate, undertake other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and professional experience

  • Valid driving license
  • Defensive driver training is an advantage
  • First aid training
  • Security Surveillance training
  • Past Experience with the humanitarian sector is an added advantage
  • Strong team player and capable to handle multiple tasks, good sense of humor is a strong asset
  • Willingness to travel regularly
  • Turkish native speaker, good knowledge of English
  • Intercultural awareness and respect for diversity
  • Willingness to work sometimes on weekends or after regular office hours
  1. Reporting Lines

The incumbent will directly report to the Head of Mission (HoM) and when requested/needed to the person responsible for the security.

  1. Performance Evaluation

The following criteria will be applied for performance evaluation:

  • Compliance with EF policies, procedures and standards
  • Accident record
  • Any health issues
  • Eyesight has not deteriorated

Time schedule

The driver will be offered a service contract for 3 months renewable upon satisfaction of duties and tasks conducted.
