Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is implementing a number of emergency programs for vulnerable conflict affected Syrians in northern Syria and Turkey through the provision of food baskets and flour distribution, small scale water and agricultural initiatives, non-food item distributions, and psychosocial assistance for refugee children through child friendly spaces


The core objective of the TRANSLATOR is to provide quality and efficient translation support to the wider CRS & DAR teams. This will include written translations from Arabic to English and English to Arabic for a variety of purposes. In addition, it will include oral interpretation for meetings, interviews, skype calls and training sessions as required. As a member of the operations team, other administrative office duties will be assigned as found necessary.



  • Available to provide written translation for programming and operation purposes (from English to Arabic, and from Arabic to English).
  • Simultaneous oral interpretation during workshops and training sessions to individuals or groups.
  • Interpretation during interviews with new staff members.
  • Provide interpretation over Skype calls.
  • Interpretation at official meetings with government officials.
  • Transcribe documents from Arabic to English and English to Arabic. This may include transcribing and translating conversations as well as formal documents
  • Translate legal documents from Arabic to English and English to Arabic.
  • Other administration duties as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all documents and conversations translated.


Administrative Tasks:

  • Support the Senior Admin Officer with contract management tasks, including filing all the contracts and updating the tracking sheet.
  • Follow up on the status of contract expiry and report to the Senior Admin Officer to ensure contract renewals are conducted in a timely manner.
  • Scan contracts, upload them, and add the hyperlink to the tracking sheet.

Internal:  CRS Admin team, All Programing & Operations staff in CRS & DAR


External:  N/A



  • Minimum three years’ professional translation experience.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, must be able to interact in a mature, professional and friendly manner with staff and visitors.
  • Highly organized. Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and respect time sensitive deadlines.
  • Must be scrupulously honest and always foster an atmosphere of trust and integrity to maintain confidentiality of all documents and conversations translated.
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship builder
  • Committed to always providing highest possible customer service
  • Good computer and IT skills, fully capable with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and PPT, Adobe Acrobat & Publisher).
  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Arabic required.



  • Master’s degree in English / Translation studies preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Normal conditions of an office environment. May be required for skype call translations on Sundays. Compensatory hours in lieu will be provided.
